Industry related health issues
30th February 2005

A bloke just turned 60. He was almost completely deaf, with severe tinnitus. He had a plastic hip and acute pan in a number of his joints. He was on his third pacemaker and fourth triple bypass. He suffered from emphysema and had only about 30% lung capacity. He had no friends and was flat broke, living on a pension in a run down old people's home. When asked how he came to be so debilitated he simply said "I've had a very successful career in the audio industry".

Sounds bloody funny but lets face it, it's probably close to the truth. It doesn't matter if your doing live shows, corporate gigs or installations. We live in an industry that seems to constantly be under pressure of some sort and the worst part is that we always try and respond, thus proving the old saying. "Insanity, is repeating the same thing expecting a different result".

We have come to the conclusion that a number of people in the industry are slightly ill informed about some of the real dangers. So lets click on the headings below and have a look at a number of them.

Smoking
We are taking time with this one because, it's a habit some staff don't want to deal with.

Loud noise
This is definitely worth a read because it may save your career.

Junk food
This article failed due to our realization, for most staff, there is no other food.

Drinking & Drugs
This article is due when the staff finish their exhaustive testing process.

Wild women
Do any other types turn up at gigs?
